Blue Card Requirements for Club Volunteers
Centenary Dolphins Swim Club is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all swimmers. Some volunteers are required to hold a current Blue Card before helping with club activities, while others may be exempt depending on the type of activity and whether their own child is participating.
Who may be exempt?
Parents are generally exempt from requiring a Blue Card when volunteering at an activity or meet where their own child is participating. This may include helping with duties such as timekeeping or marshalling at a meet where your child is also swimming. Volunteers may also be exempt if they assist on fewer than 7 days per calendar year, or if they are under 18 years of age. Even if you are exempt from holding a Blue Card, the club still needs to record your details in the Club Register.
When do you need a Blue Card?
You may need a Blue Card if:
- You are volunteering at an activity where your own child is not participating
- You are volunteering regularly throughout the season
- You are helping on 7 or more days per calendar year
- You are in a paid role with the club
- The club advises that your role requires a Blue Card
You must not begin a role that requires a Blue Card until your Blue Card requirements have been completed and confirmed.
Already have a Blue Card?
If you already hold a current Blue Card or Exemption Card, the club still needs to link you to Centenary Dolphins Swim Club.
Please email us your:
- Blue Card or Exemption Card number
- Date of birth
Applying for a Blue Card
If you need to apply for a Blue Card, please follow the steps below.

Go to the Queensland Government Blue Card Services applicant portal and register for an online account.
This online account is used to verify your identity and manage your Blue Card application.
Step 3: Apply for your Blue Card or Exemption Card
Once your online account is set up, use the Blue Card Services applicant portal to apply for a Blue Card or Exemption Card.
There is no fee for volunteer applications.
Step 4: Send your details to the club

Option 1
- Your online account number or applicant ID

Option 2

- Your date of birth
Step 5: The club links you to Centenary Dolphins Swim Club
Once we receive your details, the club will verify your account and link you to Centenary Dolphins Swim Club. You will be notified once this has been completed.
Step 6: Complete the process online
After the club has linked you to our organisation, return to your Blue Card Services online account and complete the application process.
Not sure if you need a Blue Card?
If you are unsure whether your role requires a Blue Card, please contact the club before volunteering. All volunteers, including those who are exempt, may still need to be included in the Club Register. Thank you for helping Centenary Dolphins Swim Club keep our swimmers safe.
