Blue Card Requirements

Centenary Dolphins Swim Club is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all swimmers. Queensland law provides Blue Card exemptions in some volunteer situations. CEDO also keeps a current record of parent volunteers, Blue Cards, Exemption Cards, and any exemptions that apply.

When a parent may be legally exempt

A parent generally does not need a Blue Card when volunteering for an activity their own child is directly participating in.

  • Timekeeping at a swim meet where their own child is participating
  • Helping with a day activity involving their own child
  • Volunteers under 18 years of age
  • People volunteering in regulated child related work on fewer than 7 days across a calendar year
The parent exemption does not apply to overnight camps or duties involving close personal contact, such as helping children with changing, bathing, or toileting. It also cannot be used by a restricted person.

When a Blue Card is required

  • Your own child is not directly participating in the activity
  • The role involves an overnight camp or excursion
  • The role involves close personal contact with children
  • You are a paid employee undertaking regulated child related work
  • You are an executive committee member making decisions about activities or services mainly provided to children
  • You undertake another regulated child related role and no exemption applies
Anyone undertaking a role that requires a Blue Card must hold a valid card and be linked to the club before starting.

CEDO Volunteer Register

CEDO aims to keep its volunteer and Blue Card records current. Parents and guardians who volunteer are asked to let the club know whether they hold a current Blue Card or Exemption Card, or whether they are relying on a lawful exemption. This helps the club maintain accurate records and confirm what applies to each volunteer role.

Already have a Blue Card?

If you already hold a current Blue Card or Exemption Card, please provide the details below so the club can update its register and link you to Centenary Dolphins Swim Club where required.

Applying for a Volunteer Blue Card

If your volunteer role requires a Blue Card, volunteer applications are free. The club must link a new volunteer applicant before the application can be completed.

Have your CRN ready

You need a Customer Reference Number, known as a CRN, and a current photo held by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads. A CRN can usually be found on a Queensland driver licence or another TMR issued product.

Create a Blue Card Services online account

Register through the Queensland Government Blue Card Services applicant portal. Your identity will be verified against your TMR details.

Open Blue Card Application Page

Send your applicant details to the club

Once your online account has been created, email the Club Secretary your online account number or Applicant ID and your date of birth.

The club links your account

CEDO will use the details provided to link you to the organisation. You will receive a text message or email when the link is ready.

Complete the application online

Return to your Blue Card Services online account and complete the volunteer application. Wait until your card has been approved and the club has confirmed your link before starting a role that requires a Blue Card.

Please speak with Head Coach Hiromi or email the Club Secretary at secretary@thecentenarydolphins.com before volunteering. Where a legal exemption applies, the club may still record the volunteer role and the exemption relied upon.
